In the year 2012 Dr. Hannes Schmidt, a good friend and colleague called my attention to INTERPLAST- Germany e.V.
INTERPLAST is a non-governmental non-profit organisation of plastic surgeons which is working for free practically everywhere in the world.
Their aim is trying to give back dignity to people, suffering from congenial deformities like cleft lip and palate, club foot, severe functional impairments sustained after burns or in the aftermaths of war.
These people would hardly have any other chance of intergration in their respective societies without reconstructive surgery.
My friend suggested that I should take part in a misssion as an anaesthetist in Puma (Singida, Tanzania) in October 2012 on a short notice. With some heart throb I agreed.

On the way from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Puma in the province of Singida we spent a night at Dareda - Hospital as guests of the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
